Programs

SACSS is committed to developing effective and accessible programs for the South Asian community. All our services are FREE and can be provided in various South Asian Languages such as Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi and Gujarati. If you would like us to offer any of these services at your community or faith based Centers, libraries or schools or if you have any questions about our programs, please call us at 718-321-7929.

NYC MCCAP (Managed Care Consumer Assistance Program)

In 2007 SACSS was invited to be a NYC MCCAP network agency. This program provides assistance to individual clients and families in accessing Medicaid, Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus, Medicare and other health care coverage. We also provide assistance with solving any problems you may have with your health care coverage. We hold workshops to assist our community as well as to raise awareness regarding their health care access. Call us to make an appointment.

SAEHAT

South Asians Engaging in Hypertension Awareness and Treatment is our joint project with Center for Immigrant Health at NYU funded by National Institute of Health. It addresses the gap in knowledge about hypertension and services in our community. We regularly hold health fairs to reach out to community members in need of this intervention. Through this program underserved immigrant clients with high blood pressure have been connected to hospitals such as Elmhurst Hospital where they are charged a nominal or sliding scale fee.

IMMIGRANT HEALTH CARE ACCESS & ADVOCACY COLLABORATIVE

We joined the New York Immigration Coalition's (NYIC) collaborative of various New York nonprofits working with immigrant communities in 2007. The Collaborative assists us in helping immigrants access healthcare services in New York by sharing resources and knowledge. This collaboration also helps us advocate at city and state levels for the needs of the low-income immigrant South Asian population.

PEP (Parents Empowerment Program)

This is a series of workshops that is held at faith based and community centres, public schools and libraries to empower underserved South Asian parents to ensure their children's success. Experts present at the workshops provide opportunity for one-on-one counselling. Workshops are presented in the native language of participants with special focus on the public school system, effective communication with children, positive reinforcement, health and nutrition, financial preparedness, awareness of banking and credit systems, and internet safety.

Support groups are held for NYC ACS mandated parents on Tuesday mornings 11am - 12:30 pm in Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi and Gujarati
