SUMMARY:Trapped in a Cycle of Abuse: Safeguarding Older Women’s Rights and Ensuring their Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Panel discussion presented by All India Women’s Conference (AIWC)\, AARP\, the International Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers (IFS)\, and South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS). \nWith the ageing of the population worldwide\, the wellbeing of women who are 60 and older will be a critical area of focus for civil society groups. Older women face distinct challenges and are often subject to different forms of discrimination and abuse. Like their younger counterparts\, some experience physical\, sexual and psychological violence from intimate partners\, as well as sexual harassment and threats of violence from others. However\, older women specifically\, experience controlling behaviors from partners\, caregivers and children\, resulting in a lack of autonomy and financial independence.
