Every Tuesday, SACSS hosts a legal clinic that provides community members with assistance on legal questions around immigration and other related issues, in a confidential setting in partnership with CUNY Citizenship Now! and Councilmember James F Gennaro’s office. Legal assistance is available in 19 languages: Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Nepali, Tamil, Telugu, Cantonese, Mandarin, Hakka, Malay, French and Haitian Creole, Spanish, and English. Our Flushing-based food pantry staff coordinate and deliver bags of groceries, including South Asian staples, fresh vegetables and fruits, to seniors and/or other community members who have mobility issues. Please note new registrations are only accepted on the first Monday of every month. Registration is confidential and accessible to everybody, including seniors and those with limited mobility. SACSS’ Senior Center is open and free to any senior in NYC, every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30am-1:00pm. Seniors are invited to enjoy the company of their peers while participating in a host of activities that are recreational, educational, and important for their health and wellbeing. SACSS’ Senior Center offers activities such as holiday celebrations, Bollywood Movie Night, Antakshari, arts and crafts workshops, Salsa classes, reading groups, and Karaoke, in addition to nutrition workshops, presentations and talks by health professionals, and much more to foster a vibrant and healthy community of seniors. Seniors are served a healthy breakfast and lunch when they attend the Senior Center. To register a new senior community member at the SACSS’ Senior Center:

SACSS provides community members that want to improve their computer skills a free, 12-week computer skills course, with classes taking place every Tuesday from 11:00am-1:00pm. SACSS’ computer classes will help participants learn:
  • How to use the computer keyboard and other basic hardware skills;
  • How to use basic software and programs like Microsoft Office (Word, Excel),
  • How to use and browse the internet to look for information or search for jobs, etc.

SACSS offers a FREE, 12-week ESOL course for English language beginners every Wednesday from 10:30am to 12:00pm. SACSS’ ESOL classes help new immigrants or non-English speaking community members learn and practice basic English language skills, including beginners’ conversational, reading, and writing skills. Students who successfully finish this course will be able to hold a basic conversation and will have enough language skills to be able to move on to SACSS’ Intermediate ESOL classes. SACSS offers a FREE, 12-week Intermediate ESOL class every Wednesday from 2-3:30PM. In these classes, students will learn and practice more advanced conversational, reading and writing skills, so that they can better navigate the world in which they live.
