Mental Health Counseling Program

Mental Health Counseling Program

Immigrant communities face many challenges, including mental health issues. New Americans often leave everyone they love and everything they know to come to this country. In doing so, they face poverty, isolation due to language barriers, loss of their personal networks, and discrimination, among other challenges. In many of the communities SACSS serves, people with mental health struggles also have to contend with stigma and discouragement from seeking help due to stigma. SACSS is committed to ensuring our community has access to the mental health support and services they need.

Our team of social workers and mental health professionals provide the following services in four languages, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu and English

  • Intensive case management,
  • Access to resources, and
  • Individual and group therapy.

In fact, in 2022, we conducted and curated over 425 counseling sessions for 42 individuals, along with 360 counseling sessions for 36 seniors. Cumulatively, we managed to deliver 785 counseling sessions to 78 individuals.

Expanding Our Mental Health Response

In the coming years, based on high demand, SACSS will be expanding its Mental Health Counseling Program to serve more people in additional languages. We expect to add additional mental health professionals to our team.
