This month, SACSS joyfully celebrated the graduation of students from our Workforce Development programs, including Computer Skills, English, and Stitch with SACSS. It was a proud, community-centered moment, filled with smiles and applause as students marked a meaningful milestone in their journeys toward greater opportunity and independence.
The ceremony honored the dedication and growth of each graduate, several of whom balanced their studies with work, caregiving, and other daily responsibilities. Children watched proudly as their mothers received certificates – moments that highlighted the deep, intergenerational impact of education and empowerment.
Among the graduates was Kevin (Yongping Zhang), a recent addition to the SACSS team who now works in our food pantry. He completed the English class as part of his professional development and stood proudly alongside other students, showing how SACSS supports not only the community but also its own staff in building skills and confidence.
We were honored to have Senator John Liu and Liya Thachil, Executive Director of the NYS Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Commission, attend the celebration. They offered heartfelt words of encouragement and personally presented certificates to each student.
“I wanted to come by to honor the graduates and thank them for completing the program, and encourage more people in the community, especially the women. This center has been such a boon to our community,” said Senator Liu.
After the ceremony, the celebration continued with delicious Chinese food, shared stories, and laughter—a true reflection of the warm, supportive environment SACSS strives to create every day.

This cohort of graduates reflects what’s possible with the right tools, support, and encouragement. We’re excited to see where their journey takes them next.
