Delivering Hope, One Bag at a Time!

SACSS is deeply grateful for the Guru Krupa Foundation’s support, which continues to sustain our Home Delivery Grocery Bag Program, the only culturally tailored initiative of its kind serving vulnerable residents across Queens.

With the Foundation’s support, the program currently reaches nearly 125 clients each week, many of whom have no reliable access to food and face complex dietary restrictions tied to chronic illness or disability. This includes individuals undergoing cancer treatment, with 85 patients now served weekly.

Hospitals such as Memorial Sloan Kettering, NewYork-Presbyterian, Flushing Hospital, and NYC Health + Hospitals refer patients with chronic health issues to SACSS for the SACSS food pantry, as it is known to be one of its kind in Queens and NYC.

This partnership highlights the program’s critical role in addressing food insecurity among medically vulnerable and homebound individuals. Demand is growing and is expected to continue as grocery prices rise and anticipated reductions in SNAP and other nutrition-related benefits push more households to rely on emergency food services.

Each delivery is thoughtfully assembled to meet both cultural and medical dietary needs.

This is exemplified by a 79-year-old client who began receiving food from the SACSS pantry earlier this year after being referred by NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. She lives in Ozone Park and would otherwise need to travel to Flushing to access food, which is difficult due to limited mobility caused by chronic conditions, including arthritis. Other food pantries were not able to provide delivery or accommodate her needs, and she has expressed deep appreciation for the accessible support she now receives.

In 2025 alone, the program distributed more than 20,000 grocery bags totaling approximately 430,000 pounds of food. Clients received fresh produce, staple ingredients, and culturally familiar items tailored to their health requirements, including rice, pasta, lentils or beans, milk, flour, oatmeal, and a separate bag of fresh produce. A bottle of canola or olive oil was also provided every other month.

We once again extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Guru Krupa Foundation for their continued support and commitment to helping us serve those most in need.
