Twice a year, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. embarks on Borough Hall On Your Block, a week-long initiative to connect with communities where they live and work.

“I’m a firm believer that the best way to serve your constituents is to meet them where they are, right in their own communities,” he said.

On Feb 27, he visited SACSS, recognizing our vital role in providing healthcare access, mental health support, food security, workforce development, and much more. As he walked through our center, saw seniors building connections and volunteers packing essential food for underserved families, he emphasized that supporting those in need, especially immigrants, through organizations like SACSS is more important than ever.

“SACSS does phenomenal work in making sure that they’re culturally competent for our communities and making sure people have their basic needs [met] and a place to come together and congregate with people who look like them and talk like them,” he said about his visit.

His presence was a powerful reminder that strong partnerships between local government, nonprofits, and community members create lasting change, and we are grateful to President Richards for highlighting our work.
