SACSS Monthly Nutrition Workshops with Food Bank NYC concludes with cooking demonstration
Recently, our community members said goodbye to Michael Sewa, a nutritionist from the Food Bank of New York’s ‘Just Say Yes’ (JSY) initiative, who has led monthly workshops at our SACSS Senior Center this year. We thank Michael for offering healthy, delicious, nutritious food choices and recipes, and sharing tips on how our seniors can improve their health.
For his last workshop, Michael engaged our seniors in a cooking demonstration of how to make a healthy, delicious cabbage and dill salad recipe, followed by a discussion of eating foods with fiber that helps to lower the risk of heart disease.
The NYC Food Bank JSY initiative provides nutrition education for low-income New Yorkers and those participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It also helps people take full advantage of their local food banks and use their benefits at farmers’ markets, supermarkets, and other healthy food outlets.
We will miss Michael dearly. As one of our community members said, “He’s great, and I always appreciated him and how he conducted the workshop. We hope to see him again next year.”
